According to its origin this Chinese specialty is also called „Shantung-silk“. As one of the most popular types of wild silk, Douppion shows a precious gleam like silk taffeta and a surface with subtle irregularly spun weft threads. Douppion 17 appears noble and precious, and at the same time, the fine naps remind of old hand-woven fabrics. Douppion is liked to be used for festive women’s clothing, for bride’s and ethno fashion. Noble living accessories, like curtains (not at the south side!) and pillows in all sizes from this fabric look simply spectacular!

For this design example, a twirly stripe motif was first painted onto the stretched white silk using transparent Gutta.
Afterward, the whole silk was generously painted with a large brush in the same direction as the stripes. Therefore the Gutta acts more as an accentuation rather then reserving single areas.
