Here the
wax technique was used in a multi-layered way:
First the white, stylized flower pedals were lively applied, using wax and a Chinese brush. Afterward, the flowers were painted in pink on the inside and shades of green were used for the outer areas. A couple single wax speckles create a playful effect. After the paint has dried, the whole area was painted with irregular wide stripes out of wax, running in the same direction as the finely shining douppion stripes. Then the whole fabric was painted in a darker purple and shades of green.
The stripy painting harmonizes wonderfully with the discreetly woven-in stripe pattern.

This etamine is simply perfect for designing it with the wax technique. Therefore another example:
This time a bamboo pattern.
First, a few bamboo parts were reserved on the silk, using wax. Then the silk paint was watercolor like applied in shades of yellow and green. After drying, various other parts were reserved with wax and the whole area was painted again with slightly darker shades of paint. In this way, you keep working layer for layer, from the lighter to the darker shades of color and in the end a pattern with an impressive color depth is created.
Our tip: use a large Chinese brush for applying the bold bamboo motif. That way, the strokes of the brush appear especially authentic.
