A silk with a very strong, closely woven plain weave and especially high grade Tussah yarns weft wise.
The very fine surface structure with a discreet wild silk look is typical for this Chinese quality, named after the province Honan (Shantung).  The fine burlings weft wise, a slightly rough and dry grip and the distinctive "silk-on-silk noise" make this silk a perfect partner for the most noble designer models, when a certain stability is needed.

The warm creme tone is a result of the still existing rests of silk gum and depends very much on the amount of tanning agent in the silkworm's fodder plant.

Here is an example for using the wax technique. The bold pattern was applied with a bristle brush and hot wax onto the before with pastel colors primed silk. The created areas were later painted with steam-fixable silk paint in bolder shades.
