This fabric is really something special:
An extremely smooth Scherli from pure silk!

Scherli is the name for a very elaborate type of pattern: A three-dimensional pattern is worked into a ground fabric by inserting additional lofty weft threads. These connecting threads lie loosely on the reverse side of the fabric and are cut off after weaving. Traditionally this was done by hand, using scissors - hence the name "Scherli" (derived from the German word for scissors) - but nowadays all of this is done automatically.

Our silk Scherli has a mesmerizing and extremely smooth pattern of parallel and separately arranged high-gloss dots.

A colourful Scherli chameleon!

At first the animal is crudely painted on the Scherli with silk colours in prismatic hues. After the colour has dried, the outlines are drawn boldly with hot wax, using a Chinese brush. Subsequently the area around the chameleon is covered with black silk colour - although in this example it is not done evenly, but left with jagged brush contours.
Just enough black colour is used to cover the areas that were previously coloured in prismatic hues. The remaining space is left white.

This design is a great idea for curtains or partitions.
