Salt technique.
This design example shows beginners as well as more experienced users the very popular salt technique.
The partly bizarre and always surprising structures are created by the single different sized salt grains, which are sprinkled onto the still slightly damp painted silk.
The wax technique.
One of the most versatile and simple silk painting technique. After the silk paint has completely dried, liquid wax is generously applied onto a light primed cloth. Depending on personal preference, with modern cold wax or traditional with hot wax. When darker paint is applied later, the reserved parts stay light and form a distinctly defined pattern.
In this case the single lines were applied with wax onto the still white silk and the curls were colored in with a contrasting blue turquoise.
Painting in the microwave.
This pattern is very simple and quickly created in the microwave. For this, the fabric is divided in half and folded until a small square package is left. In this case approx. 12x12cm.
This package is slightly dampened and laid flat in a vessel that is suitable for the microwave. Now drop some yellow silk paint in the middle and pink around the edges. Please only use steamfixable silk paint for this! Then carefully press down, so that the color can penetrate through to the bottom layers. Now into the microwave with the whole thing and fix on the medium setting for about 3-4 minutes. Done!
Shibori, or rather tying technique.
Again and still a hit: the tying technique, or tie-dye or simply tie-dyeing.
Many names for many similar dyeing and reserving techniques.
A piece of fabric is prepared by tying, knotting or even sewing and then colored in a paint bath. The pressed together areas absorb little or no color, through which lively and always new patterns are created.
This cloth was hemmed from the middle in a spiral pattern, using large stitches and tear-resistant thread and dyed in steam-fixable silk paint in a pot.
Dip-Dyeing.
This scarf was dip-dyed in a pot with steam fixable silk colour.
